Josh was, as usual, skateboarding down the streets of London. He stopped after a while, putting his skateboard in his backpack, and he began to walk after zipping his bag up and securing it on his shoulders. He took in his surroundings. It was beginning to snow from the cold. He shivered and wrapped his coat firmer around himself. Josh heard his phone ringing so he reached for it, before cutting the call off. It was Mary, and he wasn't in a mood to talk to her, then again he wasn't ever in a mood to talk to her. He walked a bit faster, but he stopped when someone caught his eye. He turned to look.

Amy was running hurriedly through the back streets. She needed to find that theif she had been told to watch. She had been given a description of him and some of the other members of the Homeless network had informed her of what area he was in. Unfortunately, she was about two miles away and had no way to get there other than running. Sprinting through a few streets, she paused to catch her breath. Despite living on the street, there was only so far that she could run, and she wasn't even half way there. Closing her eyes and taking a deep breath, she set off again.
Running forwards, she shivered slightly as the cold air wipped at her face. She had slept outside in this weather, sat outside in this weather, lived in this weather, but running added a certain chill as the air clung to the sweat. Rubbing her forehead, Amy blinked, trying to make sure that everything was in focus, before plowing on. After a few footsteps, she glanced up but too late. Trying to stop, she slammed into a boy who was probably older than her by a few years, and definitely with a home.
"Sorry. In a rush." Amy muttered, picking herself off the ground and brushing some of the dirt of her old clothing, it had ripped from the fall and she had grazed her knee. It wasn't really that bad. Just a bit of blood.

Josh blinked in surprise as a girl slammed into him. He smiled at her gently. "That's okay. If I may ask, why are you in such a hurry?" Josh asked. He glanced at the girl. She may have been 11 or 12. The girl was quite pretty, but judging by her clothes she lived on the streets. And she was clearly in a hurry, and he would have been able to tell even if she hadn't said it herself. Josh felt his backpack slipping and pulled it more firmly onto his shoulder. "I'm Josh, by the way. What's your name?" he asked.

"That's okay. If I may ask, why are you in such a hurry?" Amy blinked, and thought carefully about her words. it wouldn't be fine to say that she was trying to catch up with a theif. Other children would either want to come or tell on her to the police. Either way not helpful or getting her a few extra coins. "Me mum wants me. I was down that way and lost track of the time." Amy said, vaguely gesturing behind her. "Lookin' for spare coins, y'know? Hopefully Mum's been more sucsessful."
Of course, her Mum was dead, but he didn't know what, so what was the harm in a little lie. "I'm Josh, by the way. What's your name?" Amy looked at Josh, warily, before holding out her hand. "Amy, and if my hand's too dirty to shake, don't bother." She replied. She doubted he would shake her hand. Probably would get germs or something that the richer people had to worry about. Amy had barely been ill, herself. Never was any time when you lived on the street.

Josh shook Amy's hand. "Nice to meet you Amy. And if you're looking for coins.." Josh reached into his bag, and pulled out a big handful, then gave them to her. "Here. I don't need them." he said, smiling at her. His phone began to ring again, and he sighed and missed the call without even looking at it before he put it back in his pocket.

Amy was slightly suprised when Josh shook her hand and she gave him a smile. "Nice to meet you Amy. And if you're looking for coins.." Amy's eyes widened at the large amount of coins and she carefully held them in her hand. It should be enough to buy more than one set of clothes and enough food for an entire month! At least at the cheaper places were she was welcome.
"Here. I don't need them." Amy held them delicately as if she were afraid to loose them. Then carefully she slid them into her pocket. "Thank you!" She exclaimed. "Should be enough for new clothes and food for ages!" Amy was delighted with the large amount of coins. Then she noticed that there was a strange sound. "What's that?" She asked, wondering what it could be, then she paused. "It's one of those phone things, isn't it? That all those buisness people have?"

Josh smiled back. "You're welcome, anytime." then he listened to her questions and nodded. "Yeah, it's a phone." he answered, and he showed her it. "Most kids my age have one." he said as he put it back into his pocket.

"You're welcome, anytime." Amy's hand never left her pocket, never before had she had so much moneyin one given time. She couldn't believe it. How she had been so fortunate, she didn't have any idea. "Yeah, it's a phone. Most kids my age have one." Amy stared at it as he put it back. "How does it work?" she asked in wonder.

Josh considered that for a moment, then he took it out, flipped it up, stood next to the girl and began to explain. "Well, if you'd like to call someone to speak to them, you just type in their number..." he demonstrated "And then press this. he gestured to the green button and pressed it. It began to dial and then ring Mary. She picked up immediately. Josh put the phone to Amy's ear so she could hear Mary's voice, then he put it back down. "To end the call, you press the red button." he said, doing so. Josh then looked at Amy apologetically. "Sorry if that doesn't make any sense. I'm not so good at explaining."

Amy watched in fascination as Josh explained the phone and at the sound of a voice at the other end. "Its like magic!" She exclaimed, her voice coming out more like a whisper. "Who was that at the other end?" She asked curiously, wondering who she had heard. "How much do they cost?" Amy asked, curiously.

Josh grinned. "It really is, isn't it? And that was my sister Mary. She's been trying to call me all day, but I don't feel like talking to her." he then paused, thinking. "A lot of money. I still have my old phone, if you want it I can give it to you?" Josh asked. He felt sorry for her, living on the streets, and he felt as though he should give her all of his stuff. He figured she deserved it more than he did.

"It really is, isn't it? And that was my sister Mary. She's been trying to call me all day, but I don't feel like talking to her." Amy looked curiously at Josh, did he not enjoy family? "If I had a brother or sister I would answer them." She said softly. "They might be worried about you." "A lot of money. I still have my old phone, if you want it I can give it to you?" Amy's eyes widened, if she had a phone, that would help her so much with the Homeless Network. it would make her a lot more important. "But you said they were expensive. Why give one to me?" She asked, warily.

Josh looked at her. "Maybe she is, maybe she isn't. She isn't usually worried about me. And my foster parents...well, they let me do whatever I like. And as for the phone, I think you deserve one, is all. After all, people who live on the streets don't have much, but they deserve food and clothes and possessions just as much as we do, more than normal people even." Josh said, and he reached into his bag and pulled out the old phone. "I was going to sell it, but you can keep it." Josh held out the phone to Amy, wondering if she'd accept it or not.

Listening to Josh's words, Amy gave a smile, it wasn't often that people were nice to her. Instead, they thought that she should be put away. Some even considered that prison could be a good place. teach them to try and learn, to try and get jobs. But it wasn't their fault that it was so hard to learn and get jobs. Besides, she sort of had a job, anyway. "So do phones just call people? Do you have to pay, or type in something?" Amy asked, curiously, not exactly sure even though she had seen a demonstration. Picking up the phone, she carefully watched it, as if scared it might bite her.

"Usually you type in something, but if you add somebody to your contact list..." Josh gently took the phone and added his number onto her contact list. He then gave it back. "Then you just go onto the name and press the green button. he demonstrated, and then his phone began to ring. He stopped the call and smiled at Amy.
